Mark William Branson, 66, of Volo, IL passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on August 20, 2023. He was born on June 18, 1957 in Los Angeles, CA to Jim and Donna Branson.

Mark grew up in southern California in the town of Lakewood. He cherished his memories with his parents and two older brothers, who helped him develop passions for camping, surfing, fishing, and exploring nature. Learning from his father who worked as a professional carpenter, he enjoyed woodworking and took great pride in his craftsmanship. He had a fondness for animals all his life. Throughout his career across several roles, he liked helping others, solving problems, and was driven to always do his best. In retirement, his recent interests were venturing across the country in his truck and camper, finding new recipes to cook, and finding new trails to hike.

In 1981, he married Debra Stocco, with whom he had two children, Melissa and Nick. In 1986, they relocated from California to Illinois to raise their family. He enjoyed spending time in their home on Island Lake, boating and fishing. He loved visiting his grandmother Dorothy (or “Grandma Dot” as she was lovingly known) in Indiana, where they played cards and listened to her stories.

Mark was most proud of his children and their accomplishments. He was active in their interests growing up and taught them a love of nature, woodworking, and to take pride in everything they do. He was thrilled to become a grandfather and loved playing with his three grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife, Debra, he is survived by his children, Nick (Ellen) Branson, Melissa (Brandon) Daruna; grandchildren, Benjamin, Maxine and Wyatt; siblings, Bob (Cheryl) Branson and Dave (Diane) Branson; his sister and brothers-in-law, Lynn Henning (fiancé Paul Trudel), Dave (Angela) Stocco and Bruce Stocco; his mother-in-law, Rosemarie Stocco; and by many nieces and nephews he cared for greatly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, and grandparents.

Family and close friends will be invited to a celebration of life for Mark.
