Martin August Schuett, age 88, passed away at his home in Prospect Heights, IL on April 26, 2024. Marty was born in Chicago, to August and Anna Schuett.
Marty grew up in Chicago and graduated from Steinmetz High School. After high school, he enlisted into the U.S. Army and did basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO before being stationed at Fort Niagara in Buffalo, NY. After serving, he married his loving wife, Thea Wirwol. He completed the electrical apprenticeship program in Chicago and went on to a long and successful career in electrical contracting. He eventually became the owner of LID Electric, Inc., where he worked for nearly three decades, building and electrifying hundreds of commercial and residential projects in the greater Chicagoland area.
Marty loved soccer. He loved playing it in his youth and was an avid fan of soccer his entire life. He was heavily involved in the Schwaben Athletic Club throughout most of his adult life, as well as other German clubs, including Schwaben Verien, Reinescher Verien, Schiller Leidertafel, Kolping Society and the Neidersachsen Club, helping wherever he could, from erecting buildings, to serving food at the annual picnics. Marty was always happy with a fishing rod in his hands, whether it be in a pond or the ocean. He also enjoyed playing poker, especially at his regular games with his friends. He enjoyed his fall trips to Florida, where he spent 5 weeks with his best friends and family, and looked forward to them each year.
Marty remained a faithful Catholic till his last day, making it to church when he could hardly walk. His faith was always a priority and guide in his life.
Marty was thoughtful and caring, always thinking of others ahead of himself. He loved his family and let them know it through his actions. He followed his strong moral compass. He rarely asked for anything, and he gave so much to others.
Marty was extremely proud of his family. He is survived by his sister, Maryann Seidl; son, Mark (Carol) Schuett; daughter, Lauren (Sean) Allburn; grandchildren, Erik (Elly) Schuett, Jessica Schuett, Madeline Allburn, and Clare Allburn, as well as great grandchildren, Thea, Eleanor, and August Schuett.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, May 11, at 10:30 AM, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 33 S. Buesching Rd., Lake Zurich. A luncheon will follow about 12 Noon at American Legion, 51 Lions Dr., Lake Zurich.
