Martin J. Byrne, 86, a 53 year resident of Algonquin passed away December 20, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born on August 17, 1934 in Chicago, IL.

He was married to Patricia Utter for 60 years until her passing in January of 2016. Marty was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He was a Pipefitter for over 40 years and was involved in Jacob’s High School Booster Club, the Lions Club and was president, co-founder and volunteer paramedic for the Algonquin – Lake in the Hills Ambulance Service.  A highlight for Marty was the weekly Saturday breakfasts at Tony’s Café or Eggville with family and friends along with the monthly lunch gatherings with his retired pipefitter friends. Marty enjoyed traveling, fishing trips with his sons and friends, camping, going to casinos and family gatherings.

Marty will be sadly missed by his children, Cheryl (Steve) Cafcules, Marty (Debbie), Tim (Sheila), Scott (Laura), Lisa Biallas, and Mary Harrington; daughter-in-law, Cheryl (Steve) Ward; grandchildren, Matthew, Kiersten (Dustin) Lancaster, Kim Cafcules, Melissa (Jason) Lauer, Marty (Danelle), Nick (Emily), Kevin, Dan (Meg), Ian, Courtnie (Nick) Ewton, Kyle, Andrew, Emma Biallas, Zac, Tyler and Brock Harrington; his great-grandchildren, Sienna, Paisley, Chesney, Evelyn, Ryan and Connor; his brother, David (Sharon); his sister-in-law, Carole Busch; his caregiver, Tomasz; and by many cousins, nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Byrne; his son-in-law, Richard Harrington, Jr.; his brother, Bill Byrne and sister, Betty McNulty.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 27, from 2 pm until the time of prayer service at 6 pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte 176), Crystal Lake. Funeral Mass will be Monday, December 28, at 11 AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 111 South Hubbard St., Algonquin. All are invited to go directly to church. The funeral mass will be livestreamed, please visit www.saintmargaretmary.org to view the livestream.

Burial will follow at St. John Nepomucene Cemetery, Barrington Hills.

You will need to sign in once you arrive at church, please arrive early.
