Marvin H. Petterson

Marvin H. Petterson of Barrington was born April 20, 1941 in Elgin, Illinois and died on March 20, 2026 at Lake Barrington Woods in Lake Barrington, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilda and Herman Petterson, and leaves behind his brother Nylan Drew Petterson (Sherry McAuliffe) of Evanston.

Marvin was a kind and considerate man who was passionate about Barrington and its history. His other passions were the land, his plants, animals (especially his dogs), country western music and his alma mater Western Michigan University.

He was a lifelong supporter of Barrington High School athletics and in particular, the Barrington High School Softball program where he was the scoreboard operator for the varsity softball games at the “Field of Dreams” from 1993-2018.

A celebration of life will be held in the future. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the Barrington Area Historical Society.
