Mary Helen Cahill (nee McGinnis), 98, of Crystal Lake, formerly of Chicago, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014, in Crystal Lake.
She was born August 6, 1915, in Jacksonville, IL to the late Francis and Nina (nee McCarty) McGinnis.
Mary was a graduate of Routt Catholic High School, Jacksonville and DePaul University, Chicago. She was a career woman who worked for many years as a Talent Contract Administrator for ABC Channel 7, in Chicago, retiring in 1985. Mary was independent and adventurous. Prior to moving to Chicago, Mary traveled and lived in a variety of American cities, including New York City, Worcester, MA, and San Francisco. She was an avid Chicago, sports-team supporter—especially the Cubs.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Timothy R. (Chris) McGinnis of Crystal Lake, Marcia Williams of Peoria, Edward F. (Julie) McGinnis of Glen Ellyn, Michael T. (Sheri) McGinnis of Arlington Heights, and Peggy (Glen) Black of Crystal Lake; and many loving great, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Nina; step-mother, Delia (nee Nealon) McGinnis; brother, Robert F. (Agnes) McGinnis.
The visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Monday, March 31, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 1, at the funeral home with a procession to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Jacksonville.
