Mary Fano

Mary Fano, 94, of Fox River Grove passed away early Wednesday morning, May 29, 2024.  She was born in Chicago on July 27, 1929 to Salvatore and Francesca (nee Spadafora) Cali.    

Mary grew up and raised her family in Chicago.  She loved walking to the food markets and Walgreens and simply having what she needed just a walk away.   She enjoyed over 17 years of bowling with her daughter, Deb, who turned out to be a great teammate. Sunday afternoons were for Bears football games and the only thing that could beat a Bears game was her own grandkids sports.  She was their biggest fan. Mary liked to keep busy and loved cooking.  She always needed to have her pasta and vegetables.  

 A loving housewife and caregiver, she lived for her family and cherished her role as wife, mother and grandmother and daughter as she took care of her own mom while she was sick. 

Mary will be missed by her children, Joseph (Kathy) Fano and Deborah (John) Ferlito; her grandchildren, Joe (Lindsey) Fano, Kristina (Scott) Dreyer, Johnny (Christina) Ferlito, Anthony Ferlito, Danielle Ferlito and Nicole (fiancé, Matt Lee) Ferlito; great grandchildren, Cameron and Lea, Lorenzo and Francesca, and Jack and Halle; and her sister-in-law, Sylvia Cali.  

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 64 years, Joseph A. Fano and her brother, Vic Cali. 

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 7, from 3pm until a service at 6:30pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main St., Barrington.
