Mary (Tarnowy) LeGare

Mary Neubauer LeGare, 87, currently of Gurnee, formerly of Park Ridge, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023.  She was born at home in Chicago on January 2, 1936 to Andrew and Ellen (Dunn) Tarnowy.

On June 12, 1956 she married the love of her life, Kenneth A. Neubauer.  They had two children, Kenneth and Jacqueline. He died suddenly in 1976.

Mary always enjoyed family time.  She loved babies.  Being on a lake was a favorite thing.  She liked gardening, and puzzles.  She had a fun sense of humor and people were drawn to her witty personality even up until the end. When she was in her seventies, she decided to learn Spanish and enjoyed reading and watching old movies. Mary was very health conscience throughout the years and after her diagnosis, kept up diligently with her movement and balance exercises for Parkinson’s Disease.

She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Julie) Neubauer and Jacqueline (William) Tobin; grandchildren, Kevin (Teresa), Lauren (fiance Nicholas Aguina), and Michael (Emily) Tobin and John Neubauer; great grandson, Keaton Tobin; her siblings, Ginger Dunn and Daniel (Tonnie) Tierney.

There will be a private memorial service for Mary on June 17.

Memorials in Mary’s name can be made to Parkinson’s and Dementia Studies, as well as her selected causes that she chose to support: The Arbor Foundation, National Parks and Soaring Eagle.
