Mary Pixley, 89, a longtime resident of the Barrington area, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, from natural causes. She was born on December 28, 1935, in Lebanon, Oregon, to the late Ross and Daphan Bradshaw.
Mary married George “Bill” Pixely on October 29, 1957, and while their marriage eventually ended in divorce, they shared many meaningful moments and were blessed with two sons, Cameron and Mitchell.
While her love for her children was undeniable, it was her connection to horses that defined her most. Over the years, horses became not just a passion but a way of life for Mary. From the first horse she ever rode to the many she cared for and loved, her bond with these majestic creatures was unparalleled. That love translated into meaningful work—Mary proudly served as an investigator for the Hooved Animal Rescue Society, where she dedicated countless hours to ensuring the safety and well-being of neglected and abused animals. Her tireless efforts made a lasting impact on both the animals she protected and the people who worked alongside her.
She loved her horses more than anything else, and they in turn provided her with a sense of peace and purpose that words could scarcely describe.
For the past 25 years, Mary found her greatest joy in her cherished beach house in Venice, Florida. Each winter, she would return to the Gulf Coast’s gentle breezes and golden sunsets, where she felt most at peace.
When not in Florida, Mary spent much of her life in the Barrington area, where she was a well-known and respected figure in the local equestrian community. Her knowledge and love for horses were matched only by her energy and enthusiasm for life. She also enjoyed skiing and tennis, hobbies that allowed her to embrace the outdoors and share special moments with friends and family.
Mary is survived by her sons, Cameron and Mitchell (Donna) Pixley, grandchildren, Evan (Kayla) Pixley, Brooke (Zachary) Norris, Frank (Jennifer) Accardo, Bill and Meghan Pixley; great-grandchildren Eleanore and Amelia Pixley, Elijah and Emorett Norris, Aubrey and Abigail Accardo; former daughter-in-law, Sherri Pixley; her sister, Margaret Glorfeld.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
