Mary B. Wolter

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary B. Wolter (Campbell) announces her passing on Saturday, July 4, 2026 at the age of 85. Mary passed away at Northwestern Medical Center in McHenry, IL, after a long illness. She was surrounded by her Family and loved ones.

Mary was born April 6, 1941 in Athens, AL to Robert and Ida Campbell and was the youngest of four daughters. She was preceded in death by both her parents, three sisters, Robbie Campbell, Dana Moody, Ruth Pugh and an infant son, Alan Lee Layoff. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Edward Wolter; three children, Reggie (Cyndy) Layoff, Brian Layoff,Gina (Jim) Jamieson; her stepchildren Chris (Beverly) Wolter, Jill (Rick) Rife and nine grandchildren, Jane (Alex) Cato, Meghan Jamieson, Andy Layoff, Grace Jamieson, Sarah Jamieson, Lily Rife,Ryan Rife, Judson Wolter and Vance Wolter, as well as many more extended family members.

Mary had a full life. Born in Athens, AL, moving to Chicago, IL at the age of 13 and finally moving out of the city to Crystal Lake, IL to raise her three children. It was later in her life that she met her husband, Edward (Eddy) Wolter. They would marry on May 24, 1986 and eventually settle in McHenry, IL in December of 1999 and share 40 years together. Mary took pride in their home inside and outside. But what she loved most was watching the animals of all kinds come to visit - she took care of them all. It was one of her many hobbies. Her other hobbies included reading, painting, cross stitching, puzzles and thrifting. But her one true hobby was being a Die Hard Cubs Fan for 60 plus years.

The thing Mary loved most (even above the CUBS) was being a grandmother. She was their biggest fan in everything they did. Whether it was educational achievements, being in the audience for every play/musical or being in the stands or on the sidelines at sporting events,cheering the loudest.

Mary shared her life with everyone - family, friends and animals. And because of her love for animals, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Helping Paws Woodstock, 2500 Harding Ln, Woodstock, IL 60098 or by emailing Donations@helpingpaws.net. Mary was a loving wife, mother, stepmother,grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 10, from 9:30 until the time of a service at 11:30am at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Burial will follow at Crystal Lake Memorial Park.
