Melvin Y. Furusho

Melvin “Mel” Y. Furusho, 84, of Wauconda, died peacefully on Friday, October 9, 2026.

Mel was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on January 12, 1942, to parents Tatsuyoshi and Asae (nee Yonemura) Furusho. He and his family moved to Chicago in 1955. Mel was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving his country in Vietnam prior to the war. Following his service, he met Georgene “Gina” Ludwig on a ski trip, and the couple were married and had one son, Daniel.

Mel is survived by his wife, Georgene “Gina” Furusho, his son, Daniel Furusho, his sister, Winnie Ricker, and his niece, Cissy Furusho.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Gilbert Furusho.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 28, 2026, from 1p.m. to time of Military Honors at 3 p.m. all at Davenport Funeral Home, 941 S. Old Rand Road, Lake Zurich, IL 60047.
