Merrill E Johnson

Merrill grew up in the Dundee/Cary area attending Dundee HS and graduating from Crystal Lake High School in 1956. Merrill was an outstanding athlete in high school lettering in football, basketball and track. After high school he attended Utah State University where he started at quarterback. On February 15, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Vivian, and they remained married for 66 years. He received his B.S. from USU in 1961 in civil engineering. After college he moved his family back to Crystal Lake. He worked at several construction companies in Northern Illinois, working locally for Rubino Ladd and retiring from Curran Contracting in 2002 after 29 years. He also had a side hustle designing many septic systems throughout McHenry County. Merrill was a smart, kind man with a great sense of humor and a phenomenal work ethic. He will be greatly missed by all that love him. 

Merrill is survived by his wife, Vivian Johnson; children, Jeffrey (Jill) Johnson and Gregory (Lois) Johnson; grandchildren, Jason (Dana) Fillipp, Miles (Jessica) Johnson, Jessica (Jesse) Massman, Garth Johnson, Brian Johnson, Ian Johnson, and Kristen (Michael Teper) Sciortino; and great grandchildren, Olivia, Connor, Jacob, Kennedy, Everly, and Joslyn.

He is preceded in death by his children, Jill Sciortino and John Johnson; sister, Carol Kasperski, and his parents John and Bernice Johnson. 

Visitation will be Friday, August 16, 2024 from 4 PM until the memorial service at 6:30 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
