Merrily Dee Stout

Merrily Dee Stout, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication that touched countless lives. Born in 1943, in Gary, IN, Merrily grew up in Homewood, IL, where she cherished her family and shared her early years with her mother, Dorothy, stepfather, and siblings, Ginny and Chuck.

Merrily’s lifelong passion for education and nurturing others began early. After graduating from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN, with a degree in Elementary Education, she embarked on a teaching career that spanned decades and made an indelible impact on her students. From teaching 4th grade in Mt. Lebanon, PA, to shaping young minds in Indiana, PA; Arlington Heights, IL; and Crystal Lake, IL, Merrily brought creativity, compassion, and dedication to the classroom.

She paused her teaching career to embrace motherhood wholeheartedly, raising her son Barry with the same love and guidance she extended to her students. As a “super mom,” she set high standards, instilling values of perseverance and curiosity while creating a warm, supportive home. Merrily later resumed teaching, eventually joining North Elementary in Crystal Lake, where she continued to inspire colleagues and students alike. Her innovative spirit and close bonds with fellow educators led to lifelong friendships and treasured traditions, such as the unforgettable Bunco parties.

Merrily’s personal life was a testament to enduring love. She met Jon Stout, her devoted husband of 59 years, during a chance encounter at a high school play. Their love story began on April Fools Day, 1960, blossomed through snowy kisses and heartfelt connections… two fools in love. This culminated in a beautiful marriage filled with shared adventures and unwavering support

Merrily’s greatest joy was her family. She beamed with pride watching her son Barry thrive, celebrating his marriage to Holly and cherishing her role as “Grandma” to their daughters, Kaelyn and Piper. Whether attending school events, planning future milestones, or simply sharing her time and wisdom, Merrily’s devotion to her family was boundless.

A woman of deep gratitude and generosity, Merrily enriched the lives of everyone she met. She was a confidante, a mentor, and a source of comfort and strength. Her thoughtful advice, often delivered with a gentle touch, guided those around her toward greater joy and purpose.

Merrily’s final years were filled with plans to embrace new adventures with her family in Beverly, MA. Though her life was cut short, her spirit and love remain eternal.

Merrily is survived by her husband, Jon; son, Barry, and daughter-in-law, Holly; granddaughters, Kaelyn and Piper; She is predeceased by her parents, Charles and Dorothy.

Merrily Dee Stout will be deeply missed, but her love, kindness, and legacy will live on in all who knew her.
