Michael J. Chiodo, 85, of Wood Dale, died peacefully on March 4, 2026.
Michael was born in Chicago on July 27, 1940, to parents Anthony and Marion (nee Cipperoni) Chiodo.
Michael spent his career working for the Chicago Police Department where he ascended the ranks from patrol to vice to detective, then sergeant, and lieutenant. He sought early retirement to care for his mother, Marion, and later his aunt, Minnie.
He was dedicated to family and was always there for his nieces and nephews. He willingly sacrificed for his family and loved them dearly.
His favorite pastimes included watching sports, especially the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. He was an avid horse racing enthusiast and could be frequently found betting on the “ponies” which he knew many by name!
Michael was a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
Michael is survived by his brother-in-law, Vito Scopa, his sister-in-law, Sharon Chiodo, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Marion, his siblings, Anthony (Barbara) Chiodo Jr., Marie Scopa, and Louis Chiodo, and his aunt, Minnie Cipperoni.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 10:30am at St. Francis de Sales Church. 33 S. Buesching Rd. Lake Zurich, IL . Burial will be private at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hillside
