Michael Edward Luby

Michael Edward Luby, age 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2025. He was born in Chicago, IL on August 1, 1938. 

Born and raised on the West Side of Chicago Michael attended Resurrection grammar school and then went on to Saint Phillips High School and Roosevelt University where he earned a BS in Accounting. Following his graduation, he was drafted by the Army and served two years before he went on to pursue his lifelong commercial real estate career in mortgage banking where he would go on to become President and CEO of Republic Realty Mortgage in Chicago. Michael met the love of his life Rosemary in 1966. They married in 1967 and began their life together in Chicago later moving to Palatine and then to Barrington where they became parishioners of St. Anne Catholic Church in 1971.

 They had four children and three grandchildren whom he loved and cherished. Michael was an avid golfer and a member of Wynstone Golf Club since 1988 where he spent many wonderful years playing with the 11:00 group and his dear golf friends. Michael was proud of his Irish heritage. He loved the Chicago Cubs as well as doing his daily crossword puzzle, gardening and cooking for his weekly family Sunday dinner. More than anything, Mike loved his family and spent his life caring for everyone who needed him, always there to help and share his wisdom. 

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Rosemary Luby, (nee Seraphine); loving father of Anne Marie (Tom) Tyndorf, Colleen (Chuck) Martin, Michael Luby Jr.,and Bryan Luby; cherished grandfather of Nicholas, Emily and Alex; devoted brother of Robert Luby; dear brother in law of Danny Seraphine; and fond uncle of many and loyal friend to all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Marie Luby; and siblings, John (Eileen) Luby, William (Joan) Luby, Thomas (Kathleen) Luby; and his dear in laws John and Mary Seraphine as well as many beloved family members.

 A visitation for Michael will be held from 9am until mass at 10:30am on Monday, June 9, 2025 at St. Anne Catholic Community, 120 Ela Street, Barrington, IL. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington.
