Michael Joseph "Mike" Paolelli, 69, of Crystal Lake, passed away on June 4, 2026, in Newport, Rhode Island.
Born on January 8, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, Mike was the son of Loreto and Antoinette (Giordano) Paolelli.
On August 18, 1979, he married the love of his life, Susan Loftus. Together they shared more than 46 years of marriage, raising a family and creating a lifetime of memories filled with laughter, love, and unwavering support.
Mike was the proud father of Nikki Paolelli and Jakki Yamnitz (Sean). He was a devoted grandfather to Makayla “Cook” Dietz-Paolelli, Julianna “Julseys” Yamnitz, and Asher "Ash" Yamnitz. His grandchildren brought him endless joy, and he treasured every opportunity to attend their events, celebrate their accomplishments, and watch them grow.
He is further survived by his brother, Anthony Paolelli (Monica); mother-in-law, Angie Loftus; sisters-in-law, Debbie Kaminski and Linda Loftus; brothers-in-law, Don Kaminski and Otto Linderman; Andy Kluk, best friend of over 60 years and many nieces, nephews, and countless friends who were fortunate enough to know him.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Loreto and Antoinette Paolelli; sister, Maria Linderman; father- in-law, Patrick Loftus; and uncle, Michael Distasi.
For more than 40 years, Mike worked as a salesman in the construction industry. He could sell just about anything, usually with a smile, a story, and a gift for making people feel like old friends. He was known for his strong work ethic, outgoing personality, and willingness to lend advice, whether it was requested or not. If something needed fixing, Mike was always ready to supervise the project and tell you exactly how it should be done.
Mike lived life to the fullest and found joy in the simple things. He was a good catholic man, who enjoyed his time with the Knights of Columbus. Mike loved Friday night karaoke, Thursday night poker, Wednesday bingo, and long conversations with friends on the phone. He was an Elvis fan, sharing a birthday with The King, a devoted McDonald's patron, a self-proclaimed chocolate connoisseur, and an avid watcher of Hallmark Christmas movies. He enjoyed playing on his iPad, watching Columbo, The Godfather, The Sopranos, and just about anything related to the mafia. Mike loved throwing money into his favorite slot machines and his time spent at Rookies enjoying the new friendships he made there.
A lifelong Chicago sports fan, Mike's loyalty belonged first and foremost to the Bears. He preferred being behind the wheel, though those closest to him might say he was just as talented at backseat driving. He loved telling stories about the old neighborhood, and while the details may have changed over the years, the entertainment never did.
Above all else, Mike loved his family. He took great pride in watching his daughters become accomplished women and later joked that after years of living in a house full of women, Sean and Ash finally gave him some backup. He was happiest cheering on his grandchildren, spending time with those he loved, being only a phone call away whenever someone needed him and especially being with his dog Coco.
Mike's laughter, stories, advice, and generous spirit will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
