Nancy L. Leckie, 88, of Oakwood Hills, died peacefully on May 23, 2026, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
Nancy was born in Chicago on October 21, 1937, to parents Frederick and Marion (nee Mally) Leckie, one of four siblings.
Nancy was a pioneer in her career, working diligently in a male-dominated field. She was fiercely independent and taught her many nieces the importance of being self-sufficient. She also taught her nephews the strength in being kind. Nancy had a strong will and could accomplish anything she put her mind to. When a colleague questioned her love for animals because she still ate meat, she immediately became a vegetarian. Her love for animals was apparent to anyone who knew her and she cared for many beloved cats and dogs. She loved to garden and had an incredible vegetable garden she spent countless hours tending. She was an avid White Sox fan and loved to cheer them on. Nancy was a remarkable friend, a devoted sister, aunt, and great-aunt and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Nancy is survived by her best and lifelong friend, Diana (the late John) Kollaritsch, her siblings, Fred (Jill) Leckie, and Bruce (the late Alana) Leckie, her brother-in-law, Vincent (the late Joyce) Alonzi, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her dear friend, Sandra Gidley, her sister, Joyce Alonzi, and beloved cats and dogs, Sadie, Pumpkin, George, Sarah, Maggie, Annie, and Penny.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Acacia Park Cemetery, 7800 Irving Park Road, Norridge, IL 60706.
