Nicholas A. Michas, 82, of Wauconda, Illinois passed away peacefully on April 20, 2023.
Nick was born in Moose Jaw Canada on July 25, 1940. He came to the United States from his home province of Alberta Canada and earned his B.S. in Mathematics at the University of Alberta in 1962. He earned his Phd in Economics at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 1966. He then embarked on a career as a professor of Mathematics and Finance at Loyola University Chicago, at the University of Athens in Greece, as well as Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. He then embarked on a career as a consultant specializing in portfolio management of public pension funds in Chicago. Upon retirement, he enjoyed and relished traveling and spending time with his beloved wife Kathy, his children, their spouses, and his two beloved granddaughters.
Nick was proud of his Canadian and Greek heritage and passed that love to his children and granddaughters. He was a member of the National Hellenic Society. Nick was a voracious reader and especially loved books about historical ancient Greece as well as current politics in many countries including the U.S., Canada, and Greece.
Loving husband to wife Kathryn Ann Michas (nee Schoen) of 54 years; and devoted children Koren Elise Pehkonen (Eric) and Paul Nicholas Michas (Mariah).
Proud grandfather of Kathryn Elizabeth and Jamie Nicole Pehkonen.
Dear brother of Harry Michas (Magda) of Edmonton Alberta Canada. Cousin of Spero and Nick Sperounis (Linda) of Saskatchewan Canada.
Nick is preceded in death by his parents Athanasius (Tom) and Effie Michas (nee Mercou).
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the near future.
