In Loving Remembrance and Celebration of the Life of Nicole Weldzius
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nicole Weldzius, who was called to God on May 19th at the age of 40. A beloved parent, spouse, daughter, sister, niece, friend, and teacher, Nikki left an indelible mark on the lives of all whose life she has touched.
Nikki dedicated her professional life to education, spending many years inspiring young minds in the classroom. Most recently as a passionate STEM teacher, Nikki demonstrated her gift for turning curiosity into discovery. She brought science, technology, engineering, and math to life in the classroom and inspired each student through hands-on learning. One of her favorite tools was LEGO bricks, which she used not just for building structures, but for building confidence, collaboration, and critical thinking across children of all ages. To Nikki, every LEGO model was a chance for a child to dream bigger and problem-solve boldly.
Known for her warmth, patience, and unwavering belief in the potential of every student, she was not only a teacher but a mentor and role model to countless children and colleagues and she consistently went above and beyond to make everyone feel seen, heard, and valued through her enduring optimism and support. She sought to create personal connections and lasting relationships with everyone she encountered, and many were recipients of small gifts which Nikki used to brighten the day of those who needed it most. Nikki was an integral part of the broader community as well and volunteered her time for those with disabilities and for those who were less privileged within her community.
At home, Nikki was a loving spouse to Eric for 17 years and the devoted mother of Wyatt (10) and Emmett (8). Family meant everything to her and the joy she brought to their lives was immense. Cooking together as a family, traveling the world, going on daily walks, runs, and bike rides, exploring new restaurants, playing board games, reading books, having dance parties, playing tennis, attending soccer games, exploring the Chicago Botanic Garden, where Nikki and Eric became engaged, throughout each season, volunteering, and praying together at St. Anne created the bonds with their faith, family, and the community that will forever guide and unite them.
Nikki’s presence lit up every room, and she had a profound impact through each and every activity that she dedicated herself to. Her compassion, kindness, and genuine care for others will be deeply missed by all who knew her. While gone too soon, her legacy of love, learning, and service will live on through her husband, children, family, friends, and all the students she has touched over the last 18 years.
Nicole will be deeply missed by her husband, Eric; children, Wyatt and Emmett; parents, Carole and Mark Lindgren; siblings Brad (Klaudia) Lindgren, Erika (Dan) Knox; nieces Alyssa and Mikhaila; nephews Simon, Solomon, and Harrison; sister-in-law, Colleen (Gene) Lillie; and by many loving friends, extended family, and colleagues.
A celebration of Nicole’s life will be held at Saint Anne Catholic Community, 120 Ela St. (Corner of Franklin and Ela Sts), Barrington.
In honor of Nikki’s vibrant and magnetic personality, we request that you dress to impress in colors that reflect how bright her light will continue to shine.
A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27th from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral mass for Nikki will be held on Wednesday May 28th at 10:30am and preceded by a memorial visitation at 9:30am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be directed to the STEM initiative at St. Anne Parish School in Barrington Donate Online to honor her faith and lifelong commitment to education and community.
