Patricia L. Leydig

Patricia “Patsy” Louise Leydig, 98, passed away May 27, 2024 in Barrington, IL. Born in Chicago, Patsy was the daughter of William and Frieda (nee Kossman) Schwefer. 

Her early years were spent in her father’s five bakeries, playing tennis and enjoying her close girlfriends. Tennis was a big part of Patsy’s life. She won the Chicago Park District Championship in tennis at age 18. A few years later, she met her future husband and love of her life, Fred Leydig, on the tennis courts of DePaul University. 

Patsy and Fred were married in 1949 and celebrated 62 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. Marriage, rearing four children and making a fun and beautiful home filled her life. Patsy also loved to travel including trips to Africa, China, Alaska, the Panama Canal, then traveling solo and in her 90's, to Germany and Croatia. 

At the age of forty, she became an avid golfer, enjoying many years socializing at Inverness Golf Club and wintering in Fort Myers, FL. 

Patsy will be lovingly remembered and missed by all who knew her. Sadly, Patsy was predeceased by her son, Gregory and her husband, Fred. 

Patsy is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Bruce) Pfaff and Suzann (Lothar) Schubring; son, Gary (Laurie); grandchildren, Liza Pfaff, Samuel Pfaff (Angela Mitchell), Jessica (Mike) Brown, Max (Xenia) Schubring, Ralf (Jutta) Schubring, Marc (Anne) Schubring, Katharine (John) Whittlesey and Kristen (Tim) McCullagh and 11 great-grandchildren.
