Patricia Ellen (Reardon) Spicuzza, 88, of Long Grove, formerly of Barrington, entered eternal life on August 4, 2025.
Pat was born in Chicago to Clarence (Bud) and Helen (nee Dineen) Reardon on April 22, 1937. She grew up on the Northwest side of Chicago with her siblings, Michael, Dennis, and Joan. She attended Our Lady of Mercy Grade School, Immaculata High School, Mundelein College and University of Hawaii. She graduated with her undergraduate degree in Mathematics from the University of Hawaii after marrying Richard who was in the Navy and stationed in Hawaii. A lifelong learner, she earned her master’s degree, plus so many hours.
Pat is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Richard, her parents, in-laws, as well as many beloved family members and dear friends. Pat is survived by her children Marie Spicuzza (Kort Gustafson), Rick Spicuzza (Cindy), Sharon Popielewski (Ted), Ellen Gull, her grandchildren Gabriel, Dominic, and Fernado Gustafson, Rebekah Moses (Giovana Totini), Katherine Spicuzza (Devin Kaselnak), Thomas Spicuzza, Mary Popielewski Hall (Steve), Matt and Erin Popielewski, Patrick and Emma Gull, and her two great grandchildren, Samuel Jack Moses-Totini and Aedan James Hall, her siblings and their spouses, Michael, Joan Galvin (Thomas), Dennis Reardon (Judy), her sister-in-law, Annette Roeder, many loving nieces and nephews and friends, including life-long friends who were like family.
Pat’s faith, family and friends were the core of her life. She was fortunate to still call so many of her high school classmates her closest friends. Her “bridge ladies” from Mundelein College highlighted her life as well as friendships formed from living in Barrington and belonging to St. Anne Parish for 54 years. She was fortunate to have a special community with her colleagues from Lake Zurich High School, and many others throughout her life. Her title of “Grandma Pat,” was the highlight of her life. No degree or employment could surpass that title or role. A brilliant mind, Pat educated high school students in Chicago and the suburbs in all levels of math, with her main career occurring at Lake Zurich High School for 20 years. She curated stunning gardens and enjoyed reading (and later listening to books), her multiple book clubs, numerical patterns, chocolate, Swedish Fish, Starbursts and anything with caramel.
Throughout her life, until she absolutely couldn’t, she was an active volunteer, fabulous cook and seamstress, and loved entertaining and playing bridge. She was generous beyond measure. When Parkinson’s, Glaucoma and age got the best of her, she fought fiercely for as long as possible to remain as connected and independent as possible. “Siri” and wonderful caregivers became ways for her to maintain as much independence as possible.
Many will remember her by her “love you more” greeting that made each visit feel extra special.
