Peter E. Lind, 87, of Cherokee Village, AR passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on June 30, 2023. Peter was a first generation Swedish American, born on June 15, 1936 to Swedish immgrants, Bror and Agda Lind. Peter grew up in Northlake, IL and attended Leyden High School. While at Leyden, he played tennis and earned the nickname of the “Swedish Bullet"
Peter was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving at the Headquarters in Ft. Leonardwood, MO in the 554 Engineer Battalion. He was honorably discharged with a Specialist 4th Class rank. On September 28, 1956, Peter was united in marriage to Gale Norrgran. Together they celebrated 66 beautiful years of marriage and were blessed with 3 children, Cheryl, Scott and Amy. One of Peter’s first jobs was a caddy at a golf course, which helped grow his love of the sport. By trade, Peter was a talented woodworker and carpenter, specializing in architectural woodworking. He was the owner of Lind Woodworking for many years, where he was able to share his craft with many.
Peter loved nature and being outdoors, especially fishing, downhill skiing and watching the ski jump at Norge Ski Club - something he greatly enjoyed since he was a child. He also enjoyed any vacation that involved being on the lake, skiing and taking cruises with his friends.
Peter was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and was working on obtaining his pilot’s license with dreams of building and flying a wooden airplane. He was a member of Barrington United Methodist Church, where he also assisted in building maintenance, a member and President of Home Owners Protect Environment (HOPE) as well as President and Ringmaster of Barrington Bit and Bridle.
Peter is survived by his devoted wife, Gale (nee Norrgran); children, Cheryl (Birger) Hartwell-Christensen, Scott (Cindy) Lind and Amy (Tom) Butler; grandchildren, David (Jennifer) and Daniel Hartwell, Natalie and Eric Lind, Bridget and Peter Butler; great-granddaughters, Adalynn and Grace; and by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings, Greta, June and Vanda.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 4 PM until 7 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main Street (Lake-Cook Rd) Barrington, IL 60010. Visitation will resume at the funeral home from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral service. Interment will be private.
