Raleigh “Lee” J. Rowland- 73, of Elgin, IL, entered into His eternal kingdom on October 26, 2022 at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He was born on April 10, 1949 in Evanston IL to Margaret (Wooley) & Jerome Rowland.
Lee led a very fulfilling life. He grew up in Glenview with his 2 sisters, Michaela and Theresa Rowland. He attended Notre Dame high school and finished up at Maine Township high school. After graduating, he headed out west to California where he ultimately met his future bride, Karen Wieda/Lorentzen on Thanksgiving of 1973. They fell in love almost immediately.
They resided in Petaluma, CA and got married on July 27, 1975 in Meramec State Park, in Sullivan, MO. After a few years, they welcomed their first of three children, Angela Eve, in December of 1977. They moved back to the Midwest in the Spring of 1978, and later that year bought a house in Hoffman Estates to raise their family.
Lee started working at Pyramid Press in Elk Grove in 1978. A few years later, Lee and Karen welcomed their second child, Nicholas Daniel, in Sept of 1980. In 1983, Lee began working at his long-time employer, Identatronics ID printing in Elk Grove.
In February of 1984, they welcomed their third and last child, Juliet Marie. A family of five, Lee was happy and content with his life. He worked tirelessly and very hard to achieve all he had. Many great times were had, many family road trips over the summers and lots of great holiday celebrations. Lee retired from Identatronics in April of 2015.
He enjoyed his short retirement as much as possible, with his weakening heart and multitude of doctor appointments for this and that. He spent many days helping watch 3 of his 5 grandkids, playing chauffeur to/from their school, playing with them, and helping them to read. Family was everything to him. Lee was loved by all who knew him.
He was very selfless and honorable. He did all he could for those in need and donated to many charities, even in death, he donated his tissue/organs.
Lee is survived by his wife of 47 years, Karen Rowland, his 3 children, Angela (Michael) Newell, Nicholas, & Juliet (Patrick) Duncan; 5 grandchildren: Emily RoseMarie Newell, Willow Skye Duncan, Jareth Jett Rowland, Ethan Caleb Duncan and Malakai Gideon Duncan, and some great friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret & Jerome Rowland & brother David along with uncles and aunts.
Memorial visitation will be Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 9 AM until the 11 AM memorial service at St. Michael Episcopal Church, 647 Dundee Avenue, Barrington, IL 60010. Interment will be private.
Donations to Lee’s remaining family to help with funeral costs and final expenses is much appreciated.
