Raymond B. Ambrose

March 10, 1938 — January 2, 2024

Davenport, Barrington

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Raymond B. Ambrose, a Northwest side Chicago native, Ray was known for his calm demeanor, sharp wit, and deep love for his wife and family. Another love was reading, he was a  voracious reader his whole life.  After graduating from Weber High School he later came to  realize the value of education. This led him to be the first in his family to go to college, eventually obtaining his undergraduate degree in Accounting and MBA from DePaul University.

Before retiring to a life as a part-time golfer and full-time chauffeur for his kid's practices, Ray worked as a commodity trader on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade. He loved his job like few others do, saying that in his younger, single years, he would eagerly await the end of the weekend so he could get back to work in the trading pit.

An established figure at the CBOT, Ray garnered a reputation for not only being financially savvy, but also irrefutably fair. He kept market spreads in line with an unbreakable moral code, and everyone he worked with knew it.

Above all else though, Ray loved his family. His wife of 40 years, Kathryn, always came first. A true partner in all aspects of life, there was no one he looked at with greater love and admiration. His children and grandchildren were given all of his support, ensuring they could be successful in whatever they wished to do.

The light of the most selfless man we know has left this world, but the memory of his smile and humor remains. Rest well Ray, we will love you forever.

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Ambrose and Annette Szopiela his children Raymond R Ambrose and Kristen Lynn and his grandchild Kiran Ray.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Kathryn, his children, Noel, Nancy, Jason [Varsha], Kelly Link (Pickering), [Nathan] and Lindsay Pickering, his grandchildren, Sabrina, Alex, Raymond B II, [Amber], Stephanie, [Jeff], Velan, and his great grandchildren, Angelina, Cody, Josalin, Haley, Landon and Grayson.
