Richard Charles Carzoli, 90, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, in Barrington. He was born July 7, 1935, in Oak Park, to Charles and Ruby (Stonehouse) Carzoli.
Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1960. As a teenager, he met the love of his life, Barbara Parkinson, at a pool in Chicago in 1950. The two were high school sweethearts and were married on July 17, 1954, beginning a beautiful life together that would span nearly 75 years.
Richard and Barbara made their home in Crystal Lake, where they raised their eight children. In 1981, Richard became self-employed and continued working until the remarkable age of 90, retiring just last year. On top of that, he attained his Private Pilot License in 2005, at the age of 70. Richard and Barbara spent fifteen years living in Arizona before returning to the Crystal Lake area in 2024.
A member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church since 1967, Richard was known as a gentle and kind man with a great sense of humor. He loved a good prank and could always get people laughing. He enjoyed putzing with just about anything that could be tinkered with or fixed and was known for collecting all kinds of things along the way. A lifelong learner and proud patriot, he was also an avid Chicago sports fan and a die-hard Bears fan.
More than anything, Richard loved being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His steady presence, quick wit, and warm heart will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his children, Mike (Darlene) Carzoli of Lake in the Hills, Mary Lou (Wayne) Kozar of Woodstock, Diane (Ken) Neumann of Woodstock, Dave (Amy) Carzoli of Woodstock, Dan (Debbie) Carzoli of Woodstock, Matt (Sarah) Carzoli of Crystal Lake, John (Tricia) Carzoli of Woodstock, and Liz (Matt) Rychlik of Crystal Lake; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 15, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 16, at 10:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, followed by a luncheon.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Woodstock.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to JourneyCare Hospice.
