Richard "Dick" Schmidt

Richard L. Schmidt, 85, of Barrington, Illinois passed away on June 15, 2024 at PrairieView after a brief illness. 

Dick was born June 22, 1938 in Muncie, Indiana, the son of Wilma and Russell Schmidt. 

After graduating from Ball State University, Dick moved to the Chicago area where he began working for Ceco and helped develop the risk insurance category. He later worked for DeSoto and ITW as a Risk Manager. Dick and Suzette lived in Del Webb, Huntley where Dick enjoyed playing as much golf as possible while still working. When he retired, they moved to The Garlands in Barrington. 

Dick was a very active resident at The Garlands and could be found in the puzzle room, participating in plays, playing golf or poker. He also served on many committees, continuing his lifelong commitment to volunteering. 

Dick is survived by his wife, Suzette Schmidt, children Mark Schmidt (Sue), Cyndy Muenster, Stacy Holloway (Marty), Bob Lowenstein (Kathy), Wendy Williams (Brian), brother Dan Schmidt (Georgia) and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. 

Dick will be remembered for his love of his family, his kindness, infectious laugh, and great hair. 

A celebration of life will take place June 29, 2024 at The Garlands Performing Arts Center. The family will receive friends starting at 11AM with a memorial service following at 12PM. Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the service.
