Richard (Dick) W. Fehns, age 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 2, 2022.
Dick was born in Chicago, IL on May 3, 1938. He was a Carpenter by trade, who built his growing family a home in Barrington while working and finishing school at the same time – a home that he dedicated to 3 generations of his family. He enjoyed family camping trips, fishing, spring break trips and summer vacations as well as scuba diving and hunting trips. Dick shared his parent’s home on the Fox River in Cary as a retreat to relax and enjoy with family and friends. He made friends instantly and once you were his friend, it was for life.
Dick and Harriett were involved in bowling, playing cards, working on their high school reunions and always looked forward to their vacations in Hawaii and Mexico, where he would frequently say that he could just “live on the beach.” It truly was his favorite spot to snorkel and scuba dive.
Dick was a humble man with a large heart and was always willing to help everyone with almost any project, advice or support. He shared his knowledge and experience with his children and grandchildren. He would close every family gathering with "I love you more". Always the jokester with a quick comeback, Dick’s most common retort when asked "how he was feeling" was, no matter how he felt at the time, "with his hands".
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Harriett B. Fehns (nee Boyd); his loving children, Rick (Christine) Fehns, Vicki (Bernard) Fehns Spina, and Kathy (Lee) Fehns Gray; cherished grandchildren, Russell Fehns, Nicole Fehns Bates, William Spina, Jamie Spina, Bernie Spina, Matthew Spina, Steven Gray, and Marrisa Gray; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; sister, Carolyn Watters; and cousin, William Horn.
Preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Margaret Fehns.
A memorial visitation for Dick will be held from 9:30am until the time of service at 11:30am on Saturday October 8, 2022 at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main Street (Lake-Cook Rd) Barrington, IL 60010.
