Richard A. Hall

Richard Alvah Hall, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, at the age of 96 surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 13, 1929, in Los Angeles, California, Richard (Dick) was the son of Alvah and Mary Hall. He grew up in Burbank, CA. At the age of 18, he joined the US Navy for 5 years. He continued to serve with the United States Public Health Service as a Commissioned Pharmacy Officer from 1953 – 1956 and 1963 – 1983. In addition to dispensing medications and advising physicians and patients on drug selection and proper drug dosage, Dick developed and distributed toxicity information and treatment recommendations on drugs, chemicals and household products to over 500 poison control centers throughout the nation. He also appeared as an expert witness on pharmacy and acceptable standards of health care practice in acute and long-term care facilities. After his retirement from the Public Health Service, Dick pursued a career in commercial real estate for a short time before returning to his pharmacy background and concluding his working years as a traveling pharmacist at the age of 80.

While serving our country, Dick also continued his education and received his Bachelor of Science, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Southern California. In 1968, he completed his Masters of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.

Dick had a passion for traveling, skiing, sailing, and coffee. One of his favorite destinations was Door County, WI where he would fish and spend time with family. He was a ski instructor at Wilmot Mountain until he was 88 years old and was found on the ski hill enjoying a recreational day of skiing there at the age of 93. He loved the water as much as he loved the snow. From oceans to fresh water, Dick and his wife, Nancy, enjoyed setting sail on cruises exploring any island or riverfront city they stopped at. He also lived for his sailing trips across Lake Michigan or journeys across Bangs Lake to his favorite sites. His coffee cup was never empty. We will still look in the microwave to see if it is there waiting for him to retrieve it.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nancy Hall; his children Carolyn (Scott) Rebman, Charlene (Rick) Leibold, Cindy Hall, and step daughter Cindy (Brennan) Markee: his grandchildren and step grandchildren, Andrea, Glen, Eric, Jake, Colin, Brianne, and Kennedy, 6 great grandchildren, his former wives Laverne Hall and Sheila Hall, and many dear friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Alvah and Mary, stepdaughter Mary Ryan.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Visitation will be at 1 PM and the service will follow at 2 PM at Harvest Bible Chapel, Crystal Lake, IL.
