A funeral service for Richard A. Mason, 88, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at St. Anne Church, 120 Ela St. (at the corner of Franklin St.), Barrington, where there will be visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Father Fred Licciardi will officiate. Burial will be private in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Monday, February 22, 2010, at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington, with a wake service at 8 p.m. Born April 6, 1921, Richard passed away Saturday, February 20,2010, at Rainbow Hospice, Park Ridge. Richard was raised in Houston, where he attended the University of Houston. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1942, and later served as a pilot flying the "hump" in India and China. Following his discharge as a Major in 1946, he was employed by United Air Lines, where he enjoyed a very successful, 35-year career, retiring as a DC-10 Captain. Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Bernice Mason (nee Linn); children, Teresa (Robert) Chatel and Brad (Barbara) Mason; and granddaughters, Jacqui (Brandon) Sharpe, Danae Chatel and Lauren Mason.
