Richard Clay Schoppert, passed away on January 12, 2026, at Deer Park Village in Deer Park, Illinois. He was a cherished father, husband and brother deeply loved by his family and friends. 

Born May 16, 1934, in Keyser, West Virginia Richard was raised in Westernport, Maryland. He graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor’s degree and enlisted in the ROTC while attending college. Upon graduation, he continued to serve in the army for 2 years and ended up in the Chicago area where he raised his family and became a valued member of the community. 

For over 4 decades, Richard ran a successful consulting business in Chicago. As the founder and CEO of R.C. Schoppert and Associates, he led utilities, steel mills, mining companies, manufacturers, railroads and trucking organizations in the evaluation and purchase of technologies supporting transportation logistics. 

After the death of his first wife, he married Carol Bertoia and lived happily together for over 22 years. They split their time between Chicago and Florida and relocated to Deer Park, Illinois in 2021. Richard had a vibrant personality and was the life of the party. His happy and caring spirit will be greatly missed. 

Richard is survived by his sister, Betty Sue Swisher and his extended family from, his second wife. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Joann Simpson Schoppert, his second wife Carol A. Schoppert, his youngest daughter Leslie Anne Schoppert and his most recently departed first daughter, Bridget Schoppert Boix. 

Richard and his family will be laid to rest in the Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Richard's memory to West Virginia University.
