Richard Allen Stasewich

Richard was born on December 15, 1953 in Melrose Park, and was raised in Maywood near grandparents and uncles and aunts.

He claim to fame in those years was that he and his sister read every book in the school library. At the age of 13, the family moved to Barrington, and he graduated from Barrington High School, Class of ’71. He attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, studying art and accounting.

He became a certified public accountant, and relocated to Chicago, IL where art became a more important part of his life.

He became President of the Randolph St. Art Gallery and even had a one-man show there. His art often took on the form of life drawing and nudes, in pencil and charcoal. He was also a self-employed CPA and most of his clients were fellow artists or small business owners.

He lived on the same block of Bissell St. in Old Town for over 20 years, and his friends were all his neighbors.

After the passing of his mother, Rich came back to the family homestead, now in Cary. After his father died, he and his sister continued to live in Cary, enjoying the deer and wildlife out their patio.

Being back in the northwest suburbs brought Richard back to his love of green spaces and conservationism. He was part of the Friends of the Kishwaukee River, and recently took two kayaking trips with the group.

He also recently went kayaking in the caves near the Apostle Islands in Wisconsin, near Cornucopia, a family favorite from his youth.

To further his love of nature, Rich recently purchased 75 small trees to plant at the family home.

Richard died peacefully of natural causes on September 5, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy Mikitoff and Fred J. Stasewich. He is survived by his sister, Judy.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 10, from 9am until the time of the funeral service at 10am at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, 1449 N Quentin Rd, Palatine, IL 60067. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
