Richard J. West

Richard (“Dick”) West of Palm Coast FL. formally of Kildeer, IL., passed away peacefully on January 5, 2023. He was born, Richard Joseph West, in Chicago, Illinois.

Richard, also known as Ricky to his family and Dick West to his real estate customers and friends, was a dedicated husband and father to 6 children.  In the early 1960’s, Richard began working for Dato Realty in Carpentersville, Illinois, where he became Vice President.  There he worked alongside his wife, Lillian.  In 1981, Richard and Lillian left Dato Realty to begin their own real estate brokerage company, Dick West Real Estate, at 118 E. Main Street, East Dundee.  For 60 years, Richard worked to promote his beloved Carpentersville and Dundee communities. In the late 1960’s and 1970’s, Richard hired Chicago Cubs’ star players as guest speakers for the Carpentersville and Dundee Little League awards night ceremonies.  He worked diligently to get credit approvals for young first-time buyers and lent money to countless customers without expecting repayment.  He believed by quietly doing good, God would shine his grace on him and his family.

Richard, is survived by his children, Boris “Bo” (Cindy) West, Marina (James) Butler, Earl (Janice) West, Patrick West and Tanya West-Amelse; 16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; nephews, and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, and son Christopher; his parents, Earl Floyd and Rose Emma West; his siblings, Genevieve (West) DelVecchio, Robert West and Joan (West) Zumski.

Visitation will be held from 4:30P.M. – 8:30P.M., Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Davenport Family Funeral Home Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.  Mass will be held at 10a.m., Friday April 28, 2023, at The Church of Holy Apostles, 5211 Bull Valley Rd., McHenry. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
