Richard A. Wetterholm

It is with great sadness and heartbreak that we share the passing of our treasured Uncle, Richard A. Wetterholm who passed tragically and unexpectedly of a heart attack while driving on March 2, 2023.

Born as the oldest of three in Chicago, on March 5, 1937, to parents Arvid and Anna (nee Wiora) Wetterholm, Richard called the Lakeview area of Chicago home throughout his childhood.  He graduated from Lane Tech, attended Wright Jr. College and lived in Chicago for many years afterward. Richard then served in the U.S. Army in the Rocky Mountain Arsenal until 1962.  He later worked for Anderson and Anderson and Associates for over 20 years before retiring.  After his initial retirement, Richard, always the roller coaster enthusiast, continued to pursue his enjoyment of Disney and amusement  parks, including becoming a member of roller coaster clubs in which he participated in for decades, and combining his love for all things fun by working at Six Flags Great America for 20 years, as well.

Richard was proceeded in death by his parents, Arvid and Anna (nee Wiora) Wetterholm, and a younger brother, Roy Wetterholm. He tragically passed along with his sister, Mary Ann Gulbranson.

Surviving family includes four nieces, Rebecca Ann Gulbranson of Crystal Lake, Christine Heinrich (nee Gulbranson) of Cary, Rachel McDougall (nee Gulbranson) of West Dundee, and Erica Gulbranson of Crystal Lake; his grand niece, Emma Heinrich, and grand nephews, Austin Heinrich, August and Benjamin McDougall, whom he loved as his own grandchildren; as well as countless friends who always knew Richard to be kind, gentle, and caring.

A double visitation will be held with his sister, Mary Ann, on Thursday, March 9, from 4 until 8pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main St., Barrington.  Visitation will continue on Friday morning, March 10, from 9:30 until a service at 11am at the funeral home.   Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
