Richard Wheeland

Richard Wheeland passed away peacefully at his home March 22, 2023.  He was born September 5, 1930 in Geneva, IL to Harry and Clara Wheeland.

Rich is survived by his sons, Brian (late Nancy) Wheeland, Mike (Michelle) Wheeland, and Todd (Jolene) Wheeland; grandchildren, Caitlin, Matt, Sam, Ben, Jackson, Reilly, and Connor; and sister Lois Pracht Hanrahan.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol; brother, Elliot “Buck” Wheeland; and his parents.

Rich was a proud U.S. Army veteran and a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church; American Institute of CPA’s; and the Crystal Lake Country Club.  He taught his kids how to fish,  grandkids how to golf, and he loved hanging out with his friends at the gym and his cronies on the golf course.  Cocktail cruises on Crystal Lake were a common summertime activity.  Rich commuted to the city on the train everyday where card games in the lounge car would occupy the commute home each day.  He had a wry sense of humor and welcomed his kids friends to the house – not one of them ever beat him at pool though.

Visitation will be from 2pm until the memorial service at 4pm Saturday April 15 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave (Route 176) Crystal Lake.  Interment will be private.  Please visit www.davenportfamily.com to send messages of condolence.
