Robert "Bob" George Berry, 90, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Born on July 1, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, Bob was the son of the late John and Mae Berry.
Bob was a beloved English teacher for many years, spending the majority of his career at John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, IL, where he positively impacted countless students' lives.
A true family man, Bob cherished his loved ones above all else. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Beth (Holthaus) Berry, and his siblings, John "Jack" Berry and Norma (Berry) Knauss. He leaves behind three loving children: Katie (Ryan) Miller of Tiffin, IA, and her children Nora and Sean; Chris (Tiffany) Berry of Crystal Lake, IL, and their children Braelyn, William, and Elizabeth; and Michael (Amanda) Berry of Crystal Lake, IL, and their children Georgia and Henry.
Bob had a passion for life's simple pleasures, especially a good meal, and never passed up an opportunity to treat someone to a lunch out. In his younger years, he was an avid traveler, embarking on memorable trips to Europe with Jack and then Beth. Later in life, he continued his adventures with family, enjoying vacations in Florida and numerous camping trips.
Sports held a special place in Bob's heart. He enthusiastically coached his children's teams and was always their biggest fan from the sidelines. A loyal fan through and through, he cheered on his beloved White Sox his entire life. In his later years, you could often find him watching a sporting event on his TV, usually golf or football. Bob also had a deep affection for animals, especially dogs, and generously volunteered his time at local animal shelters.
Known for his witty sense of humor and strong opinions—occasionally bordering on stubbornness—Bob's genuine love and care for those close to him always shone through. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, from 10am until a service at 1pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the NBIA Association(Neurodegeneration with Brain Iron Accumulation) is an organization that was important to Bob as it has affected one of this granddaughters.
