Robert "Bob" Joseph Montcalm Jr.

Robert “Bob” Joseph Montcalm Jr., 83, of Lake Zurich, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026. He was born on March 31, 1943, in Munising, Michigan, to the late Robert Montcalm Sr. and Rose Montcalm.

He graduated from LaSalle High School in St. Ignace, Michigan, in 1961. The following year, on February 3, 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Katherine “Kathy” McPhee, at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in St. Ignace. Their marriage began a beautiful journey together that would span more than six decades.

In 1962, Bob and Kathy moved to Chicago, where they began building their life and family. They eventually settled in Lake Zurich, Illinois, where they made their home and raised their family.

Bob worked as an electrical engineer for more than 30 years. In his 50s, never one to sit still for long, he began a new chapter by starting LAWNGEVITY Landscaping. His hard work, determination, and willingness to take on something new were a reflection of the man he was throughout his life.

To so many, Bob was simply known as Papa. And there was no title he cherished more.

He was always happy, quick with a joke, and blessed with a wonderful sense of humor. He especially loved playfully teasing his grandkids, often keeping them laughing.

If you were looking for Bob, there was a good chance you would find him riding his scooter around the neighborhood, enjoying the outdoors and checking in on the people and places he loved.

Bob enjoyed many of life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, tennis, and pheasant hunting, and he was an avid sports fan. He faithfully followed his Chicago teams, especially the Cubs and Bears, as well as Michigan Go Blue and, of course, Notre Dame. Whether watching a game, spending time outdoors, or simply being surrounded by family, Bob found joy in the things he loved and the people he loved sharing them with.

Bob was a longtime parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lake Zurich, where he was a faithful member of the parish for 55 years. His faith was an important part of his life and a foundation for the love and devotion he gave to his family.

Above all else, Bob loved his family. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the greatest joys of his life.

In addition to his wife; he was a loving father to Deborah (Michael) Maneval and Linda (Daniel) Hassinger; a proud Papa to his grandchildren, Shanna (Gregory) Sidel, Austin (Emily) Maneval and Shelby (Reid) Schendel and cherished Papa to his great-grandchildren, Isabella, Isaac, Grace, Jackson, Dean, Josephine and 2 more on the way; dear brother to Bill (Mary), Terry (the late Helen) and Dan (Janie) Montcalm; loving brother-in-law to Melody Montcalm.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jim.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047. Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery, Libertyville.
