Robert “Bob” Mathews, 81, longtime resident of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born and raised in Chicago, IL. A lithographer by trade, he worked at Carlith Printing for many years, until his retirement in 2006.
A devoted family man meant big breakfasts on Sundays and family dinners. His children always found him fondly supporting their activities in their youth and later, those of his grandchildren. He was an avid fan of Chicago sports, PBS television, and talk radio; you could expect to hear a radio on in the house regularly. He was always in search of the small budget film which was a hidden masterpiece, unique local food finds or a great farmer’s market.
Bob will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 60 years, Carole; children, Robert (Kristen) Mathews, Jacalyn (Jeff) Marander, and Julie (Daniel) Marchik; grandchildren, Matthew Marander, Jonathon and Jakob Marchik, and Paisley and Maverick Mathews, his sister Betty Eberhardt, and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Coreen Mazurek.
A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s’ Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, www.stjude.org
