Robert Anthony Stevens

Robert Anthony “Tony” Stevens, age 87, passed away February 9, 2026.

Born June 14, 1938, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Tony moved with his family to Waterloo, Iowa at age six, where he was raised. He later attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, graduating as a proud member of the wrestling team. He compiled an 18–2 record at 177 pounds in 1959 and was a conference champion in 1960. In 2010, he was inducted into the Cornell College Hall of Fame for wrestling.

Tony worked for many years in the insurance industry, eventually becoming an independent regional executive.

In 1979, he married the love of his life, Susan Carol (Adamski) Stevens. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and a shared love of the American West. In 1986, despite no formal construction experience, Tony built their log home in North Barrington, Illinois, fulfilling a lifelong dream and decorating it in a Western theme.

Tony was known for his sense of humor and his lifelong friendships, especially his Cornell fraternity brothers, affectionately known as “The Hooters,” who gathered for years in Wisconsin for fishing and golf.

He adored his grandchildren; Brandon, Kenna, Regan, Carter, Atlas, and Archer, who brought him endless joy.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Frata and Robert Stevens, and his sister Terri (Stevens) Lutgen.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Susan; his children Lisa (Tom) Lynn, Mark (Chance), and Matthew (Johanna); and his cherished grandchildren.
