Robert Eugene Towell, 87, of Mt. Prospect, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at JourneyCare in Barrington. He was born on February 11, 1939, in Oakland, IL, the second of nine children born to Dennis and Marcella (Fitzgerald) Towell.
Bob grew up in the small town of Brocton, Illinois. He later moved to the Chicago area to begin his career, where he met his future wife, Elaine Ficht in 1960. They were married on January 14, 1961, and built a life centered around family, hard work, and enjoying the simple things together.
Bob was a devoted employee of Union 76 for over 35 years. He was known for his strong work ethic, easygoing nature, and love of staying active. He enjoyed exercise walking, high-impact aerobics, bike riding, and was always on the move. Bob took great pride in his home and yard, spending many hours gardening and keeping everything just right. He loved to laugh, enjoyed being out and about, and was always up for fun and adventure. He especially loved to dance and talked often about dancing the jitterbug growing up with his sister.
Bob was also known as the biggest encourager and everyone’s number one fan. He showed up, cheered loudly, and took genuine interest in the lives of those he loved. After retirement, Bob embraced his favorite role, Grandpa. He loved his grandchildren dearly and always called them by their full names: Andrew Robert, Benjamin Robert, Ethan Edward, Olivia Elaine, and Adam James.
Bob is also survived by his children, Mary Beth (James) Benedict and Daniel (Michelle) Towell and his brothers, Bill and Roger.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine; his son David; and his siblings, Betty, Jimmy, Rita, Judy, Kay, and Peggy.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 30, from 10am until the time of service at 12pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich.
