Robert Frederick Zellmann, Sr.

Robert Frederick Zellmann Sr. was born on September 15, 1935, in Long Branch, New Jersey, and passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026. Born to Fred and Ethel Zellmann, he grew up in Red Bank, attended Rutgers University, and also studied at the West Virginia Institute of Technology.

He quickly found his footing in sales, building a career that spanned more than 50 years selling office machines, pharmaceuticals, and eventually label systems.In 1957, Bob married the love of his life, Deanna Kay Miller, whom he met in college. Together, they built a full life that took them to Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan before settling in Crystal Lake, Illinois in 1971, where they would spend the majority of their years together. Dee passed in 2014.

Bob married Linda Beer in 2016, who became a devoted, caring, and wonderful partner in his later years.

Bob is survived by Linda, his four children and their spouses, Robert (Karen) Zellmann Jr., Andrea Zellmann Floyd, Scott (Sheron) Zellmann, and Michael Zellmann; seven grandchildren, Katharine (Nate) Jackson, Thomas (Liz) Jackson, Andrew (Summer) Jackson, Matthew (Courtney) Jackson, Sarah (Ethan) Rockel, Sydney Zellmann, and Pema Zellmann; and four great-grandchildren, Isabella Ann Jackson, Madilynn Kaylee Jackson, Landon Scott Jackson, and Beckham Ethan Rockel.

To know Bob was to know a man of many passions. He was a craftsman at heart, spending countless hours building wood furniture for family and friends. He painted in oils and acrylics, capturing landscapes, scenes, and animals with a quiet dedication. He also enjoyed making scented candles. He collected baseball cards, antique banks, small scale trucks, and golf balls from famous courses. His admiration for Joe DiMaggio, the Yankee Clipper, never wavered.Bob was an avid golfer who served in various roles of leadership, including both president and secretary for several senior golf leagues. At the age of 86, he achieved his one and only hole-in-one at Maple Leaf golf course in Port Charlotte, FL, a moment that perfectly captured his persistence.

He loved music and film deeply, with an immense collection of both. Frank Sinatra, Frankie Valli, and John Denver provided the soundtrack to his life. His favorite films included Hard Times, Jersey Boys, and Rocky, reflecting his appreciation for underdogs and their stories of grit, determination, and resolution.He was famously, almost impossibly, good with directions, a human road map who could navigate and provide clear directions for a five-state region, including Illinois, without ever glancing at a map.

His family knew him equally well as the grill master, an outdoor gas grilling title he earned and defended year-round.He served in the Jaycees and on the Crystal Lake Library Board.More than any of it, Bob loved his family and his friends. He was warm, funny, and genuinely present until the very end.

He was humble and despised arrogance and bragging. Robert Frederick Zellmann Sr. will be remembered as a thoughtful man, a gentleman, an artist,craftsman, a father, and made every room a little better and a bit more fun for being in it. He will be dearly missed.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 2, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, with a memorial service starting at 5:30 PM at Davenport Funeral Home in Crystal Lake, IL. Family and friends are welcome.
