Roger L. Johnson

November 15, 1941 — July 4, 2022

Davenport, Barrington

Roger Johnson passed away peacefully July 4, 2022.  He was born November 15, 1941 to Ralph and Rosa Johnson.

Roger is survived by his sons, Chad (Kelly) Johnson and Bart (Tricia) Johnson; grandchildren, Baye, Olivia, Lily, Ella, Ben, and Owen; and his sister, Rosemary (Charles) Kolesar.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sue Johnson.

After growing up in Pana, IL, Roger attended and graduated Eastern Illinois University in 1963.  1963 was a pivotal year for Roger as he married Sue Scroggins and moved to Chicago, IL.   Roger and Sue raised two sons and would go on to be married for 48 years.  Also in 1963, Roger joined the Chicago office of KPMG Peat Marwick.  There, he was admitted to the partnership in 1973 and in 1975, Roger was named the National Industry Director for the firm’s real estate practice, a position he held for 22 years.  At the time, Roger was the youngest partner ever selected for such a leadership position.  Prior to his retirement in 1998 and after 35 years of service, Roger was elected to KPMG’s Board of Directors.

In addition to his time at KPMG, Roger was a long time member of Medinah Country Club, where he was the finance chair for the 1990 US Open.  Throughout his life, Roger regularly attended St. Anne Catholic Parish in Barrington, Il and was a past board member of the Clearbrook Foundation.  In his spare time, Roger enjoyed spending time at his second home in Sister Bay, Wisconsin, golfing with family and friends, attending Men’s Basketball Final Fours and snowmobiling trips with his sons to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. Later in life, and upon their arrival, Roger and Sue loved spending time with their six grandchildren, especially around birthdays and the holiday season.

Visitation will be 9am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10am Thursday, July 7 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 N. Ela Street, Barrington.  Entombment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
