Roger Lulla, 82, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025. Born on January 6, 1943, in India, he spent part of his early adulthood in Germany—a time that sparked his lasting passion for German culture, music, and traditions. While in Germany, he married a native of the Bavarian mountains, further strengthening his bond with the Allgäu region. He then immigrated to the United States with his wife and their newborn, where he expanded his family while building a respected and fulfilling life.
After attending Hofstra University, Roger embarked on a career in the die-cast industry that spanned over 50 years. As a skilled engineer, he earned admiration for his technical expertise and his ability to fix and build just about anything, both in his professional work and at home.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Roger pursued a range of interests with genuine enthusiasm. An accomplished ballroom dancer, he competed in numerous competitions and later served as a judge, reflecting his lifelong dedication to dance. He also nurtured a passion for cooking, frequently experimenting with new recipes and hosting gatherings at his home, where he welcomed his children’s friends in a warm, convivial atmosphere. He was an avid gardener as well, known especially for growing preposterously large geraniums, which he would bring inside during Midwest winters and somehow keep thriving.
Roger’s blend of technical skill and cultural passion left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him, especially his family. His dedication at work, along with his love for dance and culinary creativity, enriched the lives of his loved ones and brought moments of joy and unity to those close to him. His life was a testament to the value of hard work and a genuine love for diverse experiences—a legacy that will be fondly remembered by family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Nicole (Marc) Fornaçon and Andre (Jennell) Lulla; his grandchildren, Lars and Ryan Fornaçon, Elly Lemmons, Carter, Adeline, and Wyatt Lulla; his siblings, Victor, Sheela, Uttam, Jaya and Richard Lulla; and his former wife, Gertrud Lulla.
