Roy Eugene Prince, Jr., 78, of Cary, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026. He was born on January 5, 1948 in Chicago, the son of the late Roy and Dorothy (Nebel) Prince, Sr.
Roy was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War from 1969 until he was honorably discharged in 1972.
Roy met Donna Smith on a blind date, and for the two of them, it was love at first sight. They married on May 24, 1975, and made their home in Cary, where they raised their family. Roy and Donna shared 20 years of marriage before her passing in 1995.
Roy worked as a mail carrier for more than 40 years, serving the Wheeling and Buffalo Grove communities. The postal service was a bit of a family affair, as his brothers also made their careers there.
More than anything, Roy loved being with his family. He didn’t need anything elaborate to enjoy himself. Simply hanging out together watching movies, sports and horse racing, was time well spent. Roy was also generous, caring, and had a great sense of humor. He was a jokester and often the life of the party, always ready to make those around him laugh.
Roy is survived by his children, Jeffrey, Matthew and Kathryn Prince; and siblings, Thomas (Maryann) Prince, William Prince and Mary (Robert) Roemer.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna; their infant daughter, Amy and his parents.
Services will be held privately.
