Shari grew up in Lakemore, Ohio a small village on the outskirts of Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Springfield, High School in 1964 and went on to Malone University where she graduated with a B.S. in education in 1968.
Shari was married to Martin Voltz of Canton, Ohio graduation week-end. That Fall they moved to Deerfield, Illinois where she taught fourth grade. Subsequent moves to North Hollywood, California, back to Canton, Ohio, on to Champaign-Urbana and back to Deerfield, Illinois provided Shari with opportunities to pursue her teaching career (sometimes full time, on other occasions as substitute). But Shari’s diverse talents and interests led her into other creative activities as well.
Over the course of her adult years she directed youth and children’s choirs in the churches where her husband pastored, worked in a radio and T.V. repair shop, and was administrative assistant for the president of a botanical garden. But her greatest love and most persistent efforts were reserved for her role as wife, mother and grandmother. This she considered to be her greatest and most important calling and she gave herself to it tirelessly and energetically.
Shari was preceded in death by a son, Jarrod, her parents, Alva and Pauline Kirk, an older sister, Joy Ballard, a younger brother, Jeff Kirk and her beloved Granny Taylor from whom she first learned to love her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Marty Voltz, a son, Marcus Voltz, two daughters in law, Nancy Voltz and Amy Voltz, five grandchildren: Delilah Gana, Sam, Zach, Lincoln and Hayden Voltz, four great grand children: Mateo, Leo, Kailani and Manny and one sister, Linda Robinson.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM at The Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake, 575 E. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Interment will take place at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens in Canton, OH.
