Sharon Ruth (Stene) Myers passed away on March 7, 2026, following prolonged health challenges. She was born on October 23, 1946, in Elgin, IL, and was the daughter of Arvin and Erna (Loechelt) Stene.
Sharon attended Lowrie Grade School, Abbott Junior High, and was in the first class to graduate Larkin High School in 1964. She graduated from Ellis Business College in 1965 and worked at Kemper Insurance in Chicago until her marriage to Howard Wm. Myers in 1966 at Zion Lutheran Church in Elgin.
Sharon and Howard lived in Rolla, MO, Baton Rouge, LA, and North Attleboro, MA, before settling in Crystal Lake in 1973.
Sharon pursued a career in Culinary Arts writing and publishing a cooking newsletter, which was recognized by the James Beard Foundation, for over 16 years. She catered hundreds of events ranging from holiday parties to dinners, weddings, and banquets with 300 guests. She also served as office manager for Howard’s consulting business and later helped her son, Andy, as Acorn Landscape’s office manager. Above all, she was the engine that kept the Myers family running, which included spoiling us with a home-cooked meal and baked goods every night.
Sharon loved Christmas and made every single holiday and birthday a special event for our family. Sharon was a dedicated wife and best friend to her husband for more than 51 years, and a wonderful mother, grandmother, and sister.
Sharon is survived by sons, Howard Arvin “Arvy” (Kimberley) Myers of Alexandria, VA, and Andrew Carter (Jenny) Myers of Crystal Lake; grandchildren, Lillian Helen and Oakly Carter Myers of Crystal Lake; and brother, Dennis Carter (Carol) Stene of Elgin.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband Howard in 2017.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 932 S. McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Light refreshments will follow the service. Burial will be private at Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin.
Memorial contributions may be given to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
