Sister Noreen Franzina, 98, of Lake Zurich, Illinois, passed away on June 27, 2025. She was born on December 13, 1926, in Buglio in Monte, Sondrio, Italy, to Quirico and Catherine Iemoli Franzina.
Sr. Noreen entered the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence on June 21, 1944, in Como, Italy, professing her First Vows on January 5, 1947. With a strong missionary spirit, Sr. Noreen volunteered for the Guanellian mission in the United States. Sacrificing family and country, she arrived at St. Mary of Providence, 4200 N. Austin Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, in July 1948. On January 5, 1952, Sr. Noreen professed her Perpetual Vows and dedicated her life to serving the God she loved with all her heart as well as those whom He placed in her path.
Sr. Noreen was cherished by those she served, her colleagues, her sisters, friends, and most of all, her family. She fondly spoke of her “nipoti e pronipoti” and her beloved hometown of “Buglio in Monte.” Sr. Noreen loved and was loved by all. She devoted her life to serving not only persons with developmental disabilities and the elderly but also their families, staff, sisters, novices, and all who knew her. Sr. Noreen's legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A funeral will be held at Mt. St. Joseph, 24955 N US Highway 12, Lake Zurich on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to “Daughters of St. Mary of Providence” for Queen of Peace Retirement Center.
