Stephen “Steve” L. Grubb of Barrington died peacefully on May 19, 2026, at JourneyCare in Barrington.
Steve was born in Abilene, Kansas, on June 18, 1942, to Jack Raymond and Dorothy Mae (McWilliams) Grubb. He was a proud member of the 1960 Abilene High School graduating class, where he formed close ties and friendships that continued throughout his life.
While attending Kansas State University, Steve met Linda Shoemaker, an architecture student, and the couple were married on September 3, 1966, in Manhattan, Kansas. After Steve received his Master’s Degree in Grain Science, they moved to Barrington, Illinois, where Steve had accepted a position at the Quaker Oats Research Laboratory. After over a decade with Quaker Oats, Steve founded his own consulting business to develop new products and marketing plans for the food industry, working until his retirement at age 75.
Steve was an avid golfer and loved traveling with his wife and children, and later with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed driving trips and getting to know people all over the country. Steve truly loved life and had a knack for finding some humor in any situation.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Linda Grubb, his daughter, Cydney (Michael) Henry of Alexandria, Virginia, his son, Jack Christopher (Sarrah) Grubb of Carmel, Indiana, his grandchildren Zoe Grubb, Charlie Henry, Avery Grubb and Sam Henry, and his sister Linda Cannon of Vancouver, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Dorothy Grubb.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to the time of Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m. at Davenport Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. in Barrington, IL 60010. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Northwestern Medicine Leukemia Cancer Care.
