Stephen "Laddie" Kramer

Stephen “Laddie” Kramer, 81, of Spring Grove, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024. He was born on March 5, 1943 in Barrington, IL to the late Harold and Edith Kramer.

Stephen grew up in Barrington and graduated from Barrington High School in 1961. While attending high school, Stephen was in a motorcycle accident that caused him to lose his leg. While recovering, he found interest in the staff that cared for him which led him to further his education in the field of orthotics and prosthetics. Stephen earned his post-graduate degree in orthotics and prosthetics at Northwestern University. His career as a certified orthotist and prosthetist spanned for 50 years and gave him the opportunity to travel around the country giving lectures on techniques in managing complex cases.

Outside of Stephen’s professional career, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, snowmobiles, boats and was an accomplished one-legged water skier. He loved the outdoors especially camping, hunting, fishing and traveling.

Stephen will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Denise, with whom he was united in marriage on July 4, 2003; children Brett (Jennifer) Kramer of St. Charles, Mike Kramer of Batavia, Mike (Stacey) O’Keefe of Palatine and Kristy (Ted) Novak of Crystal Lake; grandchildren Montey, Madelyn, Mason and Mack Kramer, Grace, Kyle and Annie O’Keefe, Danny and Ava Novak; his sister, Nancy (Steve) Schmidt; his niece and nephew, Kylie and Jared; and by his former wife, Jill Kramer.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 10 AM until the funeral service at 12 Noon at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main Street (Lake-Cook Rd) Barrington, IL 60010. Interment to follow at White Cemetery, Barrington.
