Steve Floyd was a loveable, one-of-a-kind human who lived a very happy and full life. He was a dedicated husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, grandfather and friend. Steve passed away peacefully on May 9th at the age of 76.
He was born on July 8, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, Steve spent his formative years growing up in Morton Grove. He served in the US Navy and was a proud veteran. He followed in his father’s footsteps and spent most of his adult life working at Floyd Steel Erectors, Inc. Beyond his work life, Steve was a family man through and through. He is the oldest of 7 siblings. There is nothing in this world that he enjoyed more than spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Steve was a loving husband to Barb for 47 plus years, and a very proud father to Elizabeth (Ryan) Mowinski, Scott (Lori) Floyd, and Lauren (Pete) Sekalias. He truly loved spending time with his 7 grandchildren, Luke, Mack, James, Matthew, Estella, Auggie, and Magnus who, among many other family members, lovingly referred to him as Bamba.
He enjoyed coaching Barrington sports teams for all 3 of his children and their friends in soccer and baseball for many years. When he wasn’t coaching, he was on the sidelines as their #1 fan, which later in life extended to attending as many of his grandchildren’s events as he could. When not shuffling from game to game, you could find Steve cheering on his beloved Cubbies, reading a good book, or enjoying a lively conversation with good friends while eating breakfast and sipping coffee at his favorite spot, The Canteen. He was a classic rock enthusiast and you could often spot him driving around Barrington, singing tunes in his jeep.
Steve will be dearly missed by his family, friends and this community. He was the most loyal, lovable goofball in every room that he walked into. He taught us to never take anything too seriously and to find humor in our daily lives. His infectious laughter spread to those around him like wildfire.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 18, from 2 pm until a service at 5:30 pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich.
He was a dedicated member of The Barrington Lions Club. He believed in giving back to the community and helping others. Please honor his legacy and passion for learning. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Barrington Lions Club for the Steve Floyd Scholarship Fund.
