Steven "Steve" Allen Yazel, 61, passed away unexpectedly on June 20, 2024, in Crystal Lake. Born on October 18, 1962, in Elgin, Steve was the youngest son of John Eugene Yazel and Anna May Frances Bales Yazel.
A lifelong resident of Crystal Lake, Steve cherished his community deeply. He was a local entrepreneur, owning several businesses, including Allison’s Collectibles, Allen Lawn Care, and a successful antique business. Steve also found joy in coaching youth soccer for many years, where he was affectionately known as "Coach Steve". He was a dedicated Cubs fan and enjoyed watching baseball. He diligently followed his daughter’s softball career and other children’s soccer careers.
Steve loved spending time near the water, whether it was Crystal Lake, Lake Geneva in Wisconsin, or Fort Myers Beach in Florida. He was an avid boater, often seen cruising the Fox River and enjoying afternoons at Blarney Island.
His career allowed him the freedom to be outdoors, where he thrived, connecting with nature daily. A live music lover, Steve passed his appreciation for classics like John Lennon, Van Morrison, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd to his children, frequently quizzing them on the greats.
Steve lived fast, never wanting to grow old, and will remain forever young in the hearts of those who knew him.
Steve is survived by his sisters, Ann (Donald) Mueller, Donna (Jay) Johnson, Mary Yazel; his brother, Robert Yazel; and his three children, Allison, Erin, and Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ann Yazel; his brother John Yazel; and his son, Steven Yazel.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 29th, from 3 pm until 9 pm at Crystal Lake Main Beach, near the bandshell. The event is open to the public, with live music and shared memories.
In lieu of flowers, contributions toward the Celebration of Life are appreciated. Steve’s family will dedicate a tree in his honor through the Crystal Lake Park District.
