With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sue Kosobud on February 23, 2025, at the age of 81. She lived a full and vibrant life, deeply devoted to her family, friends, and the many groups and activities that brought her joy.
Born in Galesburg, IL, in 1944, to Marion and John Richard “Dick” Doyle, Sue graduated from Knox College, where she met the love of her life, Bob, at the student union. Their life together took them to California, Minnesota, and Illinois, where they built a beautiful family and a lifetime of cherished memories.
Sue embraced her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother with love, enthusiasm, and devotion. She loved to travel the country and the world with Bob and raise their family together. Known affectionately as “Mama Suse” by her grandchildren, she took immense joy in being an active part of their lives. Her faith and generosity knew no bounds and she never missed an opportunity to participate in her family’s activities and accomplishments.
An active and social person, Sue enjoyed tennis and golf and the time spent at her home in Illinois and “Villa North” in Wisconsin. She held numerous leadership positions in PEO, Questers, and Pi Beta Phi Sorority, forming lifelong friendships through these organizations. She loved to entertain, enjoyed playing bridge, and delighted in needlepoint.
She was a dedicated member of The Presbyterian Church of Barrington, serving as a Stephen Minister, Elder, and Deacon. She was also involved in the Barrington Presbyterian Women (BPW) group, where she participated in Bible study, organized church funeral receptions, and helped with BPW projects, including Christmas and Lenten events.
Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob, who passed away in December 2021. She is survived by her children, Betsy Davis (née Kosobud), Chris (Suzanna) Kosobud, and Kevin (Katie) Kosobud, as well as her grandchildren, Sean and Jack Davis; Claire, John, and Will Kosobud; and Olivia, Taylor, and Graham Kosobud.
A visitation will be held at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main St., Barrington, IL 60010 on Friday June 6th between 4 and 7pm. A memorial service will also take place at The Presbyterian Church of Barrington, 6 Brinker Road, Barrington Hills, IL 60010 on Saturday June 7th at 11am.
Donations may be made to The Presbyterian Church of Barrington in Sue’s memory.
